I decided to do the calculations for my carbon footprint using my parent’s data because I
do not own my own house nor do I make enough money annually to make this calculation
worthwhile. After calculating all of the information necessary to find this out, I have come to the
conclusion that my parents use about 71 tons of CO2 a year. This comes from the 5 major
categories that they use to determine the carbon footprint.
Broken down, we use 12 tons of CO2 a year on travel which only makes up 17% of our
total. This is far below the average of around 30%. We use 19 tons of CO2 a year on our house
and this makes up 28% of the total of our carbon footprint. This is about average with other
households. In the food category, we use 9 tons of CO2 a year which comes out to 13% of our
