If I was the manger of the company, I would recommend that the company cut the hours
of all employees by one-third instead of firing 1000 employees. I feel that this is the most ethical
choice for the employer. I will explore the principles of personal virtue, government
requirements and fairness/distributive justice to prove my argument.
Cutting the hours is the best option because it would maintain the company’s reputation
of employee treatment. The company takes pride in the fact that they provide equal treatment to
their employees. This has enabled the company to get a competitive advantage over their
competitors, so it is important that the management’s behavior reflects this philosophy. If instead
management decides to fire employees indiscriminately it would be completely incongruous with
the company’s philosophy about the way they treat their employees. Terminated employees
