It is being said that a Healthy nation is automatically a wealth nation. Healthcare is very
essential for every U.S. citizen but unfortunately the system of Healthcare here is U.S. is rather run by
private companies unlike like Canada where it is Single payer universal health coverage ran by
government. It is true that Canada’s healthcare system is far better than the U.S. but if it’s really that
good, why is U.S. not adapting it as the same system Canada has. United States in fact spends more on
health care in terms of percentage of GDP when compared to any other advanced country in the World
and still has some worst health outcomes compare to Canada.
There are many reasons why United States will not follow the health care system that Canada
has. Canada has a system that is called universal health insurance meaning every citizen there will be
covered regardless and government will be paying for the services provided to providers. One main
thing is that U.S. doesn’t want to adapt that system here because of America’s unique political culture.
Americans believe in being individualistic because there are so many immigrants also. Americans believe
that government should play only a limited role in society. Universal coverage handled by government
will clash with the idea Americas society believe in which is Individualism and limited government role.
Irony Is that government itself will not really favor universal coverage because political parties do make
money out of influencing the process for example lobbyist made around $1.2 billion over the content of
ACA. Insurance companies were key players to shape the ACA and keep private insurers as major
component.
