Can a secret be harmful?
When thinking about what life has to offer and what life has to give the results are
endless. People can be anything they want like a doctor, astronaut, teacher or even a successful
business person. All it will take is knowledge, lots of will power and there is no limits to be set.
Except for the fact of being afraid or scared, maybe just the thought of failure due to something
bad that happened in the past. This may cause people to shut down and start to look down on
themselves and wonder why me?
People no matter who they are, always form some kind of walls, maybe it’s to protect
themselves from their fears, friends or even family. Maybe the wall is there because of
something or someone that has hurt them in the past, and they don’t ever want to experience that
pain again. This is where I find myself today.
When I was a little girl, I use to live in Las Vegas, and both of my parents worked in
casinos and had very different hours. My dad worked 1st and 3rd shift and my mom worked
between 2nd and 3rd shift. My mom worked at a casino called the Maxim right off of the strip.
When my mom worked second shift which was from 3pm to 11pm she used to take me to work
with her. This was not abnormal to the Vegas lifestyle because a lot of the workers took their kids
to work and we would hang out in the arcade and got to use the pool and eat for free. From
always being at the casino I started to know my mom’s co-workers and bosses. They always
checked on me and made sure I was okay. One person who took a special interest in me was my
mom’s boss David. He was such a nice man that would buy me ice cream and kept giving me
quarters for the arcade. David was married to a wonderful nurse but they were unable to have
any children of their own. David and my mom became really good friends after a while and he
even offered to watch my brother and I on the weekends while both of my parents worked. This
was a great time for my brother and me. We would always go to on his boat on the lake, climb
the mountains and do lots of fun things that my parents did not get to do with us. If I and my
brother wanted to go get ice cream at eleven at night, we could. David made us feel that I was a
princess and my brother was a prince. They had two spare rooms at their house and when I and
my brother would spend the night I had the pretty pink room with the flower bedding and my
brother got the tan room with the brown bedding.
Things were good for a while until one day, we went to the local running track at one of
the high schools. That day was kind of different for me, that day changed my life. David was
running the track with my brother while I sat on the bleachers and just watched them. When they
were finished I noticed that there was an ice cream truck across the field. I asked for some ice
cream and David gave my brother money and told him to go and buy us some ice cream. While
