Durable Goods Order, Friday 3/23/18 for February 2018
[This event captured the increase in durable goods orders in February 2018. There appears to be
“significant strength” for this year’s factory sector, especially the data on “core capital goods”.
This data shows the most convincing strength because the actual percentage is well over the high
estimate given. The consensus was 0.7%, the range was from 0.2-1.0%, while the actual
percentage was 1.8%. This may help to boost business investments across the country as well
because it proves the strength of the factory sectors and how the percentages are steadily
increasing. This will boost the economy and help GDP grow.
Another interesting group to look at is the section for primary metal orders. Due to all of the talk
surrounding Trump’s new steel tariff, this category really sparked some interest in me. According
to the website, the orders increased 2.7% last month and this may indicate that the price of steel
and aluminum is increasing as well. It is predicated that this percentage will continue to
increase.]
Critique-
This article was super informative, I liked how Jennifer incorporated raw data in her
article, something I didn’t see that much. I know personally the easiest way to understand a scale
