On April 2nd 2014, at 2:00p.m. I went to the Water and Power Department civic committee
held at 200 N. Spring street, in Los Angeles, Ca 90012 on the tenth floor. The civic event
was my first that I have ever participated in, I found it very interesting. The kind of
political organization that participated were the Energy and Environmental Committee.
The council members in charge of the event were, Felipe Fuentes (chair), Bob
Blumenfield, Tom Labonge, Jose Huizar, and Paul Koretz. The kind of people who
participated in the event are bureau representatives from the Environmental LA Sanitation
Department. The main representatives were, Dell Kahnotesh, Ween Tam, and Evelyn
Cortez Davis.
What I liked about this event was how the water department endeavor to introduce to the
council members a new plan for the waters used in the SoCal area. As we seen, LA faces
so many climate changes throughout the year. During the summer there’s rarely any rain.
That is a result of droughts throughout all Southern California. As for during the winter
there is always rainfall, that cause in floods for so many cities. The Environmental LA
Sanitation Department are trying to address these multiple issues and find resolutions to
each concern. The issue is at times there isn’t sufficient water in the basins to go out to the
cities, making a major reliance on imported water from Colorado river and Northern
California to meet the water needs here in SoCal. What the LA Sanitation Department
