Pankaj Ghemawat developed the CAGE (cultural, administrative, geographic, and
economic) framework in order to compare the significant differences in countries.
Cultural, has to do with the differences in language, and possible language barriers the
specified countries may face. Administrative, relates to imports and exports within the
country, and the agreements about trade which that area follows. Geographic, is the
distance between the countries being compared. Economic differences refer to the currency
being used within each country. Two countries which will be compared right now are
Germany and the UK.
According to BBC, the official language of Germany is German (95% speak German),
however, other languages are known depending on the region. For example, Sorbian is
known among <1% of people on the east side of Germany. Also around 10K people speak
North Frisian in a district known as Nordfriesland. Other languages known around
Germany are Danish, and Turkish.
BBC also concluded that the United Kingdom is filled with mostly those who speak only
English (95% of the population). Other languages spoken in the area include Celtic
languages, Scottish, Irish Gaelic, and Welsh. However, United Kingdom have large
numbers to immigration which also brings other languages over including Italian, Polish,
Greek, and Turkish.
Economy Watch concluded that, “Germany is the third largest exporter and importer in the
world, accounting for more than half of the European Union’s international trade.” Starting
in January of 1995, Germany joined the World Trade Organization as a single nation.
