Do you think the organizations should take into account given the fast evolving nature of the
mobile plaorms as they incorporate more mobile technologies into their IT infrastructure, such
as BYOD (bring your own device) initiatives? Why? or Why not?
BYOD is a policy that allows your employees to use their own smartphones, tablets, and laptops
in the workplace instead of company provided devices. By embracing BYOD, organizations lose
much of the control over the IT hardware and how it is used.
We have listed a few reasons for why BYOD should not be incorporated in the organizations:
1) Security: The security of a business is a)ected by BYOD. Businesses are a)ected in the
following ways:
a) Increases the risk of data leakage: As workforce becomes reliant, the +oodgates of data
leakage and threat open up. Mobile phones and tablets are the weakest links when it
comes to a-acks
Prevention: implement policies and procedures clearly implementing boundaries and
actions that would be taken on violation
b) Exploits vulnerabilities: According to the survey conducted by HP, 97% employee’s
devices contained security issues and 75% lacked adequate data encryption. Thus,
vulnerabilities can be exploited by hackers
Prevention: VPN grants access by verifying that the data that is transferred is encrypted
and permi-ed
c) IT Infrastructure: Not only the data protection should be a concern but also how it
