Advantages and Disadvantages to Biofuels
For many years, the world has been searching for viable alternatives for fossil fuel. In
recent years, biofuels have surfaced as a possible solution. As with fossil fuel, there are
advantages and disadvantages to biofuels. Along with making sure the advantages outweigh the
disadvantages, it must be determined if it is a sustainable solution.
Advantages of Biofuels
One of the biggest advantage that biofuels have over fossil fuels is that they are produced
from renewable sources. According to the EPA, this means that “the production and use [of
biofuels] could, in theory, sustained indefinitely” (United States Environmental Protection
Agency, 2018). In contrast, fossil fuel is limited in resources. As a result, only a handful of
countries are able to financially benefit from it’s production. Biofuels are produced from natural
