SUBJECT: Summary of “Letter to Shareholders”
Mr. Smith:
I have reviewed the 0les on the GE 2015 Integrated Summary Report. Through reading
this report, I was able see how GE remains a good investment, despite the state of the
global economy. In 2015, GE grew their Industrial earnings per share by 19%, expanded
their segment margins by 80 basis points, thus leading to returning $33 billion in cash to
their investors. They continue to remain successful by providing full applications of data
and analytics to machines and systems.
GE is no perfect company; they thrive o; progress and continue to seek innovation to make
GE better. GE explains how they think companies who think that are perfect can get you in
trouble, in the present environment. GE began transformation by dismissing financial
services, and closing the deal of Alstom (their largest industrial deal). In the process of
this, GE sold half of their company where they lacked competitive advantage to rebuild
their core. This ended their focus as a high tech company, but opened the world of
becoming a ‘Digitial Industrial’ company.
Considering the high risk of this restructuring plan, it stood behind the GE culture, “We are
willing to take bold actions in the face of uncertainty; and our team puts the company
ahead of their own interests.” Keith Sherin and his team were not afraid of risk and
executed their plan Aawlessly. This was reAected in their share price; GE’s total stock
return for the year of 2015 was up 28%. GE is now the leader of the industrial Internet
through focusing on productivity both for their company and the customers they serve.
Best,
Austin Willenbrock
I choose email as my format for this one. I received an email from him and it would be
most appropriate to return it in the same format. When asked to summarize, I offered key
elements of information that were presented in the article I was given. I found it crucial to
inform him how GE was still a good investment despite their lack of perfection. I also
offered statistics for awareness and credibility towards their success
