What mistakes do you think John Mitchell made with the way he solved the problem
of limited office space? Explain.
– Mitchell’s first mistake he made when approaching Acklen was the fact he gave Acklen
no opportunity to help find a solution to the problem, and made the mayors suggestion a
final decision immediately. Mitchell also shouldn’t have put the burden on Acklen to
break the news to the rest of the team about sharing office space with the Greenway
project. As a team decisions should be made together and not by a single person. Mitchell
was clearly trying to win over the mayors favor. This shows that politics can sometimes
disrupt the respect and team effort in business.
What approach would have you used if you were Mitchell? Why?
– If I were Mitchell, I would have looked at all of the other possibilities for office space,
such as the unused third floor that held library books for storage. Mitchell was too
aggressive with his descision and didn’t even accept any objections from Acklen. I also
would have been the person to inform the rest of the team about sharing office space.
Mitchell didn’t look at it from the teams point of view only from his own.
