Problem Statement:
A manager of a hardware store wants to understand the demographics of adult visitor to
the store. She directed two of her employees to use systematic sampling to select a random
sample of 300 visitors. With the help of Minitab, she will be able to generate useful variables
such as “ages” and “est spending” the mean, five number summary, range, interquartile range,
variance deviation, and coefficient of variation, as well as box plots for “age and “est spending”
data.
Statistical Result:
1. Refer to appendix 1 for statistical table. I found that the mean of “age” to be 41.313 and the
mean of “est spending” to be 174.40, this means the “mean” is the “average” the population,
where you add up all the numbers and then divide by the number of numbers is “age” 41 and
“est spending” to be $174.
The five number summary gives you a rough idea about what your data set looks like. In our
case, the lowest value (the minimum) is “age” 18 and the highest value (the maximum) is
“age” 90. While minimum value for “est spending” is $60 and maximum value is $340. In
addition, the 5-number summary also gives the median, the average, which in this case 40 for
“age and $170 for “est spending”. Also, the quartile 1 is the mean of the minimum point to
the median sample while quartile 3 is the mean from the sample median to the maximum
