EXCUTIVE SUMMARY
The use of social media has grown drastically in the past decade. Social media can be a great
way to connect with friends and family, share and view photos and posts, look for new jobs, for
advertising uses, to keep up with the latest news, etc.
In this report the disadvantages are the main focus. With the increase in accessibility and
convince of social media, people are over using it and it is showing negative effects on their
lives. Research has shown social media can increase bullying because it is so easy for people of
all sizes and age to bully behind a computer. With the increase of social media use there is also
an increase in identity theft and fraud. Individuals are putting too much personal information on
the internet and it is resulting in people getting their identities stolen and becoming a victim of
fraud. Over use of social media has also caused a lack of face-to-face communication skills.
Studies show people growing up using social media as their main form of communication have
never properly learned how to communicate face-to-face and are or will suffer later in life for it.
One of the more serious effects of social media on individuals is health problems. Research has
found too much social media can result in medical problems such as; sleeping problems,
depression and anxiety and body dysmorphia.
I have done research on dependable websites and news sites as well as conducting my own
survey, which prove these conclusions to be true. The findings showed that people are uses social
media much too often, especially females age 18 to 34. These people also admit to have effects
from over using social media.
In conclusion people are over using social media. Although social media may be great in many
ways it has so many negative effects on our lives and I would recommend it be used in
moderation.
