oral presentation on the film to a group of college students. Keep each point short—use 1-2 complete

1. Billions of dollars of economic impact lost with oysters, crabs, shad, striped bass being
contaminated. The decline in the fisheries was so dramatic, nobody would have thought even 10
or 15 years ago, that literally lost the entire oysters population as a commercial fishery.
2. The bay is acutely vulnerable because its watershed is so large, 11,000 miles of shoreline, and it
drains big rivers from six states. In North America, it’s the largest estuary. We’re talking a sixth
of the East Coast, from Cooperstown, New York, out into West Virginia, almost down to North
Carolina.
3. the Chesapeake Bay is on the verge of ceasing to function in its most basic capacities. Which
include providing recreation, providing a source of seafood such as shellfish, finfish, oysters,
crabs, providing underwater grasses which support the crab population and being an ecosystem
that is beautiful to look at, to support tourism.
4. The Potomac River in the l960s was so polluted, you didn’t want to get anywhere near it. The
odor from the river was in large part due to poorly treated sewage. If you were out sailing in a
small boat and capsized, you had to go in and get a shot or two. The river was so polluted it was
