NY Bargain Case
Personally, I think there is nothing wrong with what the staff did. They determined that the
product was of much greater value than what the seller had in mind, so obviously if they
can get a valuable sculpture for a drastic amount of money less, then they should do so.
Despite that not being the morally correct action, I believe that the majority of people
would handle the situation the same exact way that they did. However, it can be seen as an
unethical action and it goes directly against the ways of Kantian Deontology. Kantian
Deontology states that the duty is acting with respect for other rational beings, and
sneakily purchasing a product that they knew had greater value than the seller was aware
of, is not showing respect and doesn’t abide by the universal principles.
