2) If foreign companies pay bribes, does that make it OK for U.S. companies to do the same?
Explain why or why not.
No, if foreign companies pay bribes, it is not OK for U.S. companies to do the same. Even
though foreign business seems to function on the basis of gifts at every stage of the business
transaction, it does not change the fact that it is an unethical behaviour that should not be
engaged by any company. Bribery is an immoral act that should be prosecuted even it might
be an acceptable practice in the foreign nations. Bribery legislation in other countries might be
different from the U.S. in terms of penalties and fines. U.S companies could be penalized with
heavier penalties as bribery is an illegal behaviour under The Foreign Corrupt Practices Act
(FCPA). Engaging in such unethical behaviour can cause damage to companies’ reputation and
might greatly cost them to pay excessive fines or settlements.
