Introduction
Custom Molds, Inc is a company located in Tucson, Arizona. It is specialized in manufacturing
costuming and designing molds for plastic parts; the company also custom-made plastic
connectors for the electronics industry. As a consultant, the purpose of the analysis is to diagnose
the problem accounted by Custom Molds, Inc. and provide a recommendation accordingly; then
established the competing priorities for Custom Molds’ processes and the changing nature of the
industry. What alternatives might the Millers pursue? What are the key factors they should
consider as they evaluate these alternatives? Finally, a Flowchart that represents the operations at
Custom Mold, using the information from the case and the work done will be done.
Analysis
After analyzing the company’s work environment, we can see that the company’s main problem
is the result of poor management that led to late and sometime even defective products delivery.
The company registered a drop-in sale. It has been stated in the problem that despite the fact
Tom Miller “assigned one of the master machinists the job of identifying and expediting those
late orders.” (Krajeweski,2013) The problem was persisting. The company is still getting
complains about late delivery of defective products. “If Managers are underperforming and/or
they lack management skills well they simply won’t have the ability to increase their employee’s
productivity.” (Sabel,2014). Besides the poor management, nowhere in the text, it has been
stated that the company uses any of its money on the advertisement; in fact, “The primary
function of advertising is to persuade people to buy something.” (Boykin, 2018)
Many alternatives can be considered by Custom Molds to overcome their problem. First, they
need to have a better management plan, by hiring qualify employee for the work that needs to be
done, then have a better marketing plan, which will consist on investing money in advertising
their products. The production process need also a revision. Obviously, there is more work for
than the labor available. A way of increasing the production in a laps time and at a competitive
price will without any doubt increase the sale and bring back their clients.
Conclusion
According to the analysis, a market search, a sale forecast, a better investment plan and a good
management plan needed to be put together to bring the company back to its competitors’ level
or even better. The company needs to increase their labor force and outsource their basic
products; that way the management can focus only on their targeted market. That will decrease
the production time and increase sale which will prevent the entry of their competitor market
products.
