How Did Health Care Get To Be Such A Mess
By Christy Ford Chapin, June 19,2017
Chapter 8
The writer centers around how messed up the insurance companies are, when it
comes to health insurance. Both candidate parties are trying to fix this issue but both are
stumbled but instead of fixing it they’re just “patching it up.” Obama enacted his own
healthcare, which is referred to as Obamacare, ended up just adding a support beam
instead of totaling overhauling the whole thing.
Based on the information we discussed in class, I do agree with the author’s
opinion. The Author discusses the value in planning ahead and fixing the problem now
instead of just putting a band aid on it. Christy Chapin is trying to fix the control group
of the United States government. Instead of overhauling the healthcare model the
government instead deals with the constant string of problems as they occur. As we
discussed in class on how having all 3 types of control is extremely important to having a
successful plan. The reality of the situation is that healthcare is too big and too
complicated to handle problems as they occur (conversion stage) or after they arise(
Output Stage). The government fails to see the value in feed forward control so they can
limit how many problems can arise. I also found it interesting that in the past presidents
such as Truman had tried to reform healthcare but in order for their healthcare model to
actually work it needs more time than just a few years to get all the kinks out of it. The
ending problem that every president has in trying to reform healthcare is that as soon as
they get out the new president usually has there own way of what they think is best in
deciding on what to do with healthcare. I believe that Christy Chapin is right in the fact
that healthcare is something we need to fix but how we fix it is still a monstrosity to
figure out. I also believe that we should try Truman’s model of healthcare and than adjust
