Business Ethics: Facebook Lets Advertisers Exclude Users by Race

The infamous social network Facebook has become a special and efficient tool for
advertisers to target users by their interests in hopes to gain more customers for their clients.
However, has Facebook taken it too far? Facebook now gives advertisers the option to exclude
users by race and gender. Not only do I believe this is extremely unethical but it is also illegal.
Putting out advertisements that exclude people because of their race, gender, religion, etc. is not
only considered discrimination but can cause your business to have a bad reputation after an
ethical lapse like this. Not to mention, the thousands of dollars it can cost your business for
violating The Civil Rights Act of 1964 which prohibits publication of notices or advertisements
indicating preference or discrimination. Companies and Businesses must be aware of how their
