Allentown Materials Corporation: The Electronic Products Division Case Study
Allentown Materials Corporation is one of the largest glass manufacturing companies
since 1800’s. Through the year Allentown successfully grown and expand to other areas. One of
these new areas was electronic market with Electronic Product Division (EPD). EDP vice
president Joe Bennett successfully managed the division until his unexpected death in 1990.
Bennett was feared manager for his division and was really smart and practical. After Bennett
death Allentown decide to promote Don Rogers to new EPD Vice President (Suesse, J.M. 1997
p183).
Two years of Rogers’s leadership could not show success and division profit margin
decreased dramatically. After Bennett, Rogers was more soft and open to listen employees and
managers. On the other hand he had hard time to analyses managers and company’s problems.
