Global warming is the increase of the average temperature of Earth’s near-surface air and
ocean. It is caused by the increasing concentration of greenhouse gases such as CFCs and
carbon dioxide. Deforestation also plays a large part in contributing to the increase in
greenhouse gases as fewer trees are present to help absorb carbon dioxide during
photosynthesis.
There are many harmful negative impacts that global warming is causing to Earth.
However, there are also a few positive impacts caused by global warming.
One positive impact caused by global warming would be the increase in presence of
carbon dioxide which has a fertilizing effect on the growth of plant life. The warmer
weather means a longer growing season, and thus greater output. Therefore, overall food
production is being increased.
Another positive impact would be the melting of ice and snow in countries experiencing
winter. When the streets are free from ice and snow, driving would be much safer. There is
also no need to shovel the thick snow on pathways and roads, this reduces stress for
citizens. Heating bills would also be lowered drastically.
The most serious negative impact of global warming would be the melting of polar ice
caps. Melting of ice caps tend to create a lot of other problems which are affecting the
Earth. Sea level would rise. Base on the national snow and ice data centre, if all glaciers
melt at the same time, the sea would rise by approximately 230 feet. The global ecosystem
would also be affected. Ice caps are made of fresh water, so when they melt, they tend to
