Bridgetown church has become an incredibly influential church within the Christian
world. John Mark Comer the founder has been a large part of their success, through thoughtfully
progressing the church not just by numbers or metrics but through his intentional approach to
how a community is to gather in the name of Jesus. I believe that this has been lost in many
church communities, and should prompt us with the question of what is the reason for church?
Many of us attend church, and it has become essential to our lives, but what we should be asking
ourselves is who do we attend and what is our responsibility as the body of the church? This
leads to how important it is to truly create a foundation as a nonprofit, and this is no different for
a church. Within the modern era the church has become many different things, and even now
must identify all the different aspects of how it must function specifically as a non-profit. These
many aspects consist of mission and vision, the management of individuals, laws the
organization must abide by, finances and fundraising, utilizing technology, marketing, and
communication, and lastly the management of a board and volunteers. All these things are things
that can make or break a church in today’s day and age and if these things are now stewarded
well then, the organization can suffer. Bridgetown is an excellent example of a church that has
understood all these different foundations and has intentionally and thoughtfully maintained and
capitalized when necessary and has cultivated success. Understanding the specifics of how
Bridgetown Church has done these things well is a great example for anyone desiring to plant a
church, and not only grow in a positive direction but wholistically cultivate success in all
categories as a church/non-profit.
