Deviance and Aligning Action Assignment
Our society is known to follow certain norms, and if someone breaks them the reactions
of others can be quite difficult to take in, if you didn’t know it was breaking one. One of our
norms we have today is giving people enough space while you’re by them or talking to them
about something. We usually give someone enough space while by them so we don’t make
them feel uncomfortable or violated in anyway. Our society now likes to have their own
personal space and we don’t want just anyone and everyone to invade that. We give someone
about an arm’s length away from any part of their body so you aren’t “popping their bubble.”
When you see two people talking you usually see there’s a nice space between the two. Unless
of course they are whispering in the other person’s ear for some reason but at that time it’s
okay to be that close. Many people learn this norm at a young age, and it’s not just our parents
