Biological
Yevgeny is a 36 year old Caucasian male and has a number of biological components that have
influenced his life. Currently, he has a diagnosis of Dystonia, which he explains as a neuro
muscular disorder that causes involuntary muscle contractions, pulls, and spasms. He was first
diagnosed around age 25, during his residency for becoming a Physician. This disorder has
caused a number of physical changes, including his spine to curve like it is scoliotic, pelvic
rotation, and weakened neck muscles, causing his head to droop to one side. At one point, he
explains that using a walking cane was most beneficial, as well as physically holding his head up
with his hand. He receives quarterly Botox injections in his back, and neck to help these muscles
relax, and allow him to have some mobility. He is on Baclofen, and Clonazepam for muscle
spasms related to dystonia. In April of 2016, he underwent a surgery called Deep Brain
Stimulation. The client explains that there are electrical leads deep in his brain, near his basal
ganglia that receive signals from a wired neurostimulator placed in his chest. He reports since
having this life changing surgery, his quality of life has significantly improved as his back is
becoming straighter, and no longer needs to hold his head up. He explains that if he holds his
head up anymore, it’s simply habitual. He has been able to be more physically active since the
surgery, and has been able to get to a more healthy and desired weight. Even with the surgery,
he explains Botox injections and oral medications are crucial to his complete treatment plan.
Other remarkable conditions include a fractured right clavicle that never properly fused,
and a torn ACL in 2012, which required surgical repair. He reports since that surgery, that knee
feels weaker than the other. He had a routine sinus surgery in 2016, that lead to a surgical
complication requiring a one night stay in the hospital. He was released the next day, but was
instructed to be off work for 2 weeks due to potentially damaging internal sutures. He suffers
from asthma and seasonal allergies, as well as GERD occasionally, and takes medications for
these conditions.
The client reports that he and his wife have made an effort to be more mindful of what
they are eating, with special attention to carbohydrates. It is important to the client to maintain
a healthy, low sugar diet. He reports he still eats a balanced, variable diet that includes fruits,
vegetables, lean meats, and only occasionally red meat. He makes not that he still loves ice
cream, and has no problem eating sweets on occasion.
Since his health history has been improving, he has been able to start regularly
exercising at a gym. He had hired a personal trainer at first, to help him get back into the swing
