Book Review
The book, “Captain John Smith- Jamestown and the birth of the American dream”,
recounts John Smith’s major life events and gives insight about what went on when the colonists
found Jamestown- the first permanent English settlement in North America/Americas. The book
begins by describing John Smith as the son of a wealthiest man in the village, curious
(adventure-seeking), and hot-tempered. The book goes on to reveal the wars he fought in, his
enslavement and escape, and the rewards/acknowledgments he received after his return to
England. Upon return to England, he was announced one of the voyagers that would set sail to
North America. The rest of the book goes on explaining John Smith’s uncountable survivals of
death, his accomplishments at Jamestown, and life between the colonists and Native Americans.
