Boethius Center Response
The Boethius Center was truly an amazing experience; it felt like I had just walked into a
piece of ancient art in a museum. I truly enjoyed hearing about how life was like in Boethius’
time, and it was very surprising to hear how he was falsely accused by a criminal and thrown
into the dungeon for no reason. That piece of history just reminds me of modern times where
people can be immediately “cancelled,” or their reputations ruined based on a single bad rumor
that is started. As for Boethius’ situation, he came from a line of power, and soon became a
political leader; it is reasonable to expect that at least one person must have wished for his
downfall through any means necessary. The influence still lives on, throughout at least 4
centuries of literature work; I wonder though if the ancient biblical writings of Boethius’ time
had any influence on the way his story was recorded or discussed through word of mouth. Only
deep research would help, and speaking of research, the library research exercise brought back
memories, but also instilled new skills for finding helpful materials. The memories came back of
elementary school and learning about how the Dewey Decimal system guided us in the library.
