In the short story “Blue Winds Dancing” by Tom Whitecloud the Narrator is
a Native American who is living away from home in Western society. As he gazes out at
a night sky he begins to think of the wild mountains of his homeland, Wisconsin, and
how vastly different it is to where he is living today. The structured confines of modern
civilization fabricate reminiscence of the Narrator’s homeland. The very fact that the
annual seasons do not occur in the modern dwelling he is residing in seems to reflect
the complete ignorance that western society has towards nature. He begins to tire of the
rigid ties that is created in society, he believes that although rows of trees and
symmetrical gardens may still be pretty to look at, it is still merely “…beauty of
