Sampling
I. Key Terms (5 points)
Define all terms in your own words and provide ONE example for each term. Do not
simply copy the definitions for the key terms from the glossary, but learn the terms
and put them in your own words, this will come in handy later.
1. Sample-A smaller group, meant to represent the same proportional value as a
larger group. (i.e. Census reports, as there is no sure-fire way to count every
single person and ensure they complete a report it is meant to be representative of
the whole population.)
2. Population-Person, Place, or Thing of interest in its entirety. (i.e. This class and
the surveys we are to complete at the end of the semester to express our
like/dislikes of the class.)
3. Simple Random Sampling-Random testing and sampling based on chance. (i.e.
the lottery)
4. Snowball sampling-Successful outcomes leading to further investigation of
