1. Explain the differences that exist between a rule and a law.
The difference between a rule and a law is that a law is consisted of a set of rules
established by a local government to keep the harmony, stability and justice” (Brown
and Sukys 4) of a society. The rule is a general concept that describes as a principle or
regulation. The object of a law is the citizens of a government, and the purpose of a law is
to manage the citizens.
2. Explain the differences that exist between a rule and a law.
Ethical relativism means there is no absolute standard or definition of what is right or
what is wrong. That is to say, for different people under different circumstances, the
standard towards right and wrong varies. Everyone has his or her own culture background
and value system, this makes ethical rules relative.
3. How does law help society?
According to the textbook, law is “a means of civil management” (Brown and Sukys 4),
it tells citizens what they are allowed to do and what they are not allowed to do. Once a
person violates the law, he or her will receive corresponding punishment for that. The
punishment is not only for the ones who choose to disobey the law, but also for other
people who have the potential thoughts on violating the law as a warning.
4. Describe Utilitarianism.
Utilitarianism is all about the result of an action. If the result is good, then this action is
the values that permit a society to run smoothly” (Brown and Sukys 8).
