The film Black Swann (Aronofsky, 2010) revolved around the life of the main character
Nina Sayers, a young ballet dancer who lives in New York with her mother. Nina appears to be
in her early twenties and her whole life has been focused on ballet dancing. She dances for a
competitive and prestigious ballet company. Nina dances everyday and even practices on her
own outside of the company practices. She does not have a job, attend school, have any other
commitments or hobbies outside of this ballet company. Nina’s relationship with her mother is
very close and inappropriate at times. Nina appears to have little to no relationships or
friendships besides the one with her mother. Throughout the film it is portrayed that Nina is
isolated and experiences a lot of internal struggles.
