Introduction:
In this assignment, we will be looking at the more advanced invertebrates and the vertebrates. Phylum
Annelida stands for “little rings”. Phylum Arthropoda is the largest animal phylum, containing more species
than all of the other animal phyla combined. Arthropoda means “jointed foot.” Phylum Echinodermata
means “spiny skinned.” Phylum Chordata includes some invertebrate species, and all of the vertebrates
(animals with a backbone). Be sure to know the classes found in the chordates.

Fiddler Crab

• Antennae – Two sensory organs (feelers) located towards the front of the crab.
• Carapace – The hard, protective outer shell of the crab. The carapace is made of chitin.
