campus community safe, helps protect those among us who are most vulnerable to COVID-19, and is our
path back to more normal operations and the full college experience that our students deserve.

Class Expectations and HOW to study
General expectations: As a general policy at LSU, for each hour you are in a class, you (the student) should
plan to spend at least two hours studying for this class for each hour of lecture, including reading assigned
page-pf2
chapters, reviewing class notes etc. Since this course is for three credit hours, you should expect to spend
at least six hours outside of class studying for BIOL 1011 per week.
ALWAYS READ THE SYLLABUS WHEN IN DOUBT, AND TEXT/ CALL ME after if you still HAVE questions. KEEP
UP WITH THE DEADLINES!!
How to Study: I recommend studying AFTER EACH LECTURE by READING powerpoints and writing your own
notes. Get together with some fellow students and DO A STUDY SESSION at least ONCE per week. Complete
the homework (provided for most of the chapters) at the end of each chapter (and DEFINITELY BEFORE
each exam) - homework will help reinforce the understanding of major concepts. Homework is pretty long,
so please do NOT leave it till the last minute
To do well on EXAMS, I recommend starting to study at LEAST 2 weeks in advance, about 2-3 hr a day,
morning and afternoon (DO NOT “cram”: its just way too much material!): download the study guide (I will
try to post it as soon as possible) and use it as a template to “fill in blanks”, in essence, create your OWN
outlines using the powerpoints provided (use your own words, do whatever you need to understand the
material). Study ONE CHAPTER A DAY, and the morning of next day, try to “regurgitate” what you have
learned either by writing it or talking it through with your study buddy (or your relative). Then proceed to
study the NEXT chapter and the morning after, write down what you remember from the TWO chapters
(the first and the second one), and so on. Thus, you will “snowball” the info and hopefully remember it
better. Remember: exams are about 52% of your grade, but other things , like homework, quizzes and
research project are ALSO very important.
