Vaccination statement
LSU strongly encourages all students, faculty and staff to get vaccinated for COVID-19. Visit
www.lsu.edu/roadmap/vaccines/ to learn how to get vaccinated on campus. Vaccination helps keep our
campus community safe, helps protect those among us who are most vulnerable to COVID-19, and is our
path back to more normal operations and the full college experience that our students deserve.
Purpose and content of course
This course covers the basic information, concepts and methods of modern biological science. It is
intended for students in science, agriculture, and education. Students who want to obtain some
knowledge of biology as part of their general education should enroll in General Biology (BIOL 1002).
The material discussed in BIOL 1202 includes general concepts in evolution, diversity, and the anatomy
and physiology of plants and animals. Students successfully completing this course should be able to:
Demonstrate knowledge of a broad survey in the discipline, including the underlying principles that
govern the natural world; Demonstrate the ability to use inductive and deductive reasoning to
understand scientific phenomena.

Access to Learning Catalytics through Mastering Biology
Moodle
From your PAWS account, under Student Services, you will be able to access MOODLE for this section. I
will use MOODLE to post all course materials, please check this page regularly. The official grades for
the class will be posted here. You should be able to view your grades in MOODLE at any time during the
semester. If you are having trouble accessing MOODLE, call 578-0100 or go to the Frey Computing
Services Building.
Class Expectations
As a general policy at LSU, for each hour you are in a class, you (the student) should plan to spend at
least two hours studying for that class, including reading assigned chapters, reviewing class notes etc.
Since this course is for three credit hours, you should expect to spend at least six hours outside of class
studying for BIOL 1202 per week.
Class Conduct
page-pf2
Louisiana State University adopted the Commitment to Community in 1995 to set forth guidelines for
student behavior inside and outside the classroom. The Commitment to Community charges students
to maintain high standards of academic and personal integrity. All students are expected to read and be
familiar with the LSU Code of Student Conduct and Commitment to Community, found online at
www.lsu.edu/saa. It is your responsibility as a student at LSU to know and understand the academic
standards for our community.
Students who are suspected of violating the Code of Conduct will be referred to the Office of Student
Advocacy and Accountability. For undergraduate students, a first academic violation could result in a
zero grade on the assignment or failing the class and disciplinary probation until graduation. For a
second academic violation, the result could be suspension from LSU.
Assessment
I will assess your performance in three ways: online quizzes; online homework, and exams.
Attendance
I am giving a grade for attendance. I will announce how the attendance will be assessed. During the
hybrid format class, attendance is mandatory for both in person and on zoom, class format might
change as the pandemic situation improves (we will go IN PERSON only). You can choose to attend IN
PERSON ONLY, even during the hybrid class format, if you like, at your own risk (protect yourself).
Missing more than 10% of classes without university-approved excuse will be a ground for termination
Progress Meeting
Every person will have to have three conversations with me (phone or zoom, not in person) three times
throughout the semester: in the beginning, in the middle and at the end. This meeting will take
approximately 1-3 min per person. Please sign in using the sign in google sheet (link is posted under the
general section). Be mindful of the deadline (look for a quiz deadline on moodle and for a conversation
