Purpose and content of course
This course covers the basic information, concepts and methods of modern biological science. It is
intended for students in science, agriculture, and education. Students who want to obtain some
knowledge of biology as part of their general education should enroll in General Biology (BIOL 1002).
The material discussed in BIOL 1202 includes general concepts in evolution, diversity, and the anatomy
and physiology of plants and animals. Students successfully completing this course should be able to:
Demonstrate knowledge of a broad survey in the discipline, including the underlying principles that
govern the natural world; Demonstrate the ability to use inductive and deductive reasoning to
understand scientific phenomena.

the class will be posted here. You should be able to view your grades in MOODLE at any time during the
semester. If you are having trouble accessing MOODLE, call 578-0100 or go to the Frey Computing
Services Building.
Class Expectations
As a general policy at LSU, for each hour you are in a class, you (the student) should plan to spend at
least two hours studying for that class, including reading assigned chapters, reviewing class notes etc.
Since this course is for three credit hours, you should expect to spend at least six hours outside of class
studying for BIOL 1202 per week.
