Skills Journal Entry #2
For this skills journal entry I will address the following skills: Why should we be a good
listener, why must we seek for understanding and more informa(on about others, why should
we generate alterna(ves. The case study used to prac(ce and apply these skills was “the
Molton’s Move to Utah”.
Being a good listener is an important skill to have in any conversa(on. Each participant
must take turns being the listener and if one does not take that (me to listen e2ec(ve
communica(on has ceased. When communica(on ceases there is not going to be a good
outcome in the 3nal decision. Being a good listener means having good eye contact when the
other person is speaking, no interrup(ons, and understanding feedback. In the Case study
Susan and Brandon need to capitalize on this skill of good listening, especially for a married
couple this is a very good skill to have. When two people disagree it is easy to get 3llings hurt
and grudges to form, but a good listener can avoid these unwanted outcomes.
Seeking for understanding and more informa(on about others is also another key and
important skill to have. To seek understanding means to gather more informa(on about ones
values by asking question. In the case study Susan and Brandon need to ask each other as
many ques(on about their values as possible to be6er understand each other. This is important
because when one understands the person they disagree with it is easier to come to a good
conclusion that will bless both parties. This is important because biases form when we do not
have all the relevant informa(on. Understanding others bias can help bring to light informa(on
