Biblical Interpretations of God: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
Throughout the Hebrew Bible, God is portrayed in various ways, ranging from a father
worthy of praise to a sadistic leader that only watches suffering occur. “He makes me lie down in
green pastures”, he is portrayed as a righteous and kind God that is a leader to his followers
(Psalms 23:2). However, he can be depicted as arrogant and vicious, “He has weighed me down
with chains…” (Lamentations 3: 7). Other times, God is represented as too overprotective, “You
inspect him every morning, Examine him every minute” (Job 7:18) Even though each of the
biblical author has their separate views of God, they all acknowledge him as an almighty
omnipresent figure.
“The Lord is my shepherd” (Psalms 23:1). Here God is shown to be a divine leader the
leads his people in the right path. Everything is safe and green like life itself. The people seem to
