Tribute to Beowulf
In the last eight lines of Beowulf, there are some examples of Pagan and Christian Symbolism.
Its hard to tell which one they are leaning more towards because the story is written in old English and
the context of what they are trying to say is not clear. I do believe what that they are using the examples
of Symbolism to convey the image of Beowulf. Such as how he was a great person, and great leader to
his people for over fifty years.
Some examples of this would be like in lines 867-869 where it says. “Crying that no better King
had ever lived, no prince so mild, no man so open to his people, so deserving of praise” I believe that
they treated and considered him a god like figure, which would be Pagan, Christian Symbolism would
strongly disagree with this because the Christian god is supposed to be an extremely jealous god.
However I believe I believe that lines 862- 865 where it says “ Raise up words for their lords,
