Loyalty in Beowulf
For many thousands of years, loyalty and honor have gone hand in hand as two of the most
important virtues which heroes must exhibit. Any man who wishes to be considered a great hero
must exhibit traits beyond just physical strength. These leaders of men had to have courage,
loyalty, and honor to be the best. In Beowulf, leaders not only had to be all these things, but they
had to command the loyalty of men in their homelands. This was done through a variety of ways.
