(Benjamin Franklin is a man of many qualities such as; our founding father, the face of the
hundred dollar bill, and last but not least a inventor.) He was a well rounded man that
helped us grow as a nation and he as created many of our structures. In his book Hamlet’s
Blackberry, William Powers states “Franklin was a model of mental clarity and
productivity, despite the fact that he lived an intensely busy life and constantly juggling
responsibilities and project”(161). Basically Powers is states that even though Franklin has
a hectic life he still maintains a time so to speak and work on projects. William Powers
applies Ben Franklin beliefs that we need positive rituals, give yourself a set time for
technology, we need to change are going to have to change our habits.
Franklin used his positive rituals as a way to control and manage your impulses. For
example instead of going on Facebook and chatting with your friends go out to lunch or
coffee with them. Lets take a step back form the screen before it consumes us checking
your status every five seconds lets get back to having time with others. Powers himself
writes “Positive rituals based on inner belief—-could they help workers with
digital-dependency issues? There’s evidence they could”(170). In other words Powers is
stating that having positive rituals could help wing you off the computer screen its proven.
For instance we can give ourself a set time for technology and not let things we dreamed
about coming true take a back seat to a screen.
