Ben is treated like a puppet by his parents, his skills were being showcased as if he was a show
circus animal. In this scene, it a long shot of him in his diving costume and his parents are
introducing his jump into the 6 feet swimming pool which is being termed as a spectacular feat.
As soon as he opens the door, the shot changes to hand held camera and frisk breathing sounds
and the no external hearing makes us feel like Ben is stuck or trapped in this situation and
doesn’t know what’s going around in his own life. He looks down at his legs and up looks at his
father giving instructions. He jumps in and tries to get out but parents push him in again. He
looks around and the camera is changed to a medium shot, it just him staring at something all
lost and hopeless. The shot makes it better because his whole body posture and face could be
seen to show he is not interested at all. The scene ends with a long shot to let the audience know
that he was completely blank. There was not much of audio in this whole scene as most of it was
him breathing as it was a shot taken from a handheld camera which makes the external audio
inaudible, it might have been done to show that he wasn’t interested at all in what his parents
want him to do or that his parents friends wanted him to do, he was just in this state of mind
where he didn’t know what he wanted to or what he wants to do.
