Being Truthful at All Times’: An Important Indigenous Code of Ethics
Code of ethics exists so that mistreatments within an organization won’t happen.
They are to balance people having power in a community or organization over people
who don’t have much power or position. These ethics are present not only to businesses
or firms but to indigenous peoples as well. According to Northern College (2020), there
are 12 traditional indigenous code of ethics “Show respect is a basic law of life”,
“Observe moderation and balance in all things”, and “Receive strangers and outsiders
kindly”, to name a few. However, what struck me and believe the most out of the 12 code
of ethics is “Being truthful at all times.
Being honest at all times is a discipline one must have. In every situation a person
faces, honesty should always be instilled and applied. Being honest does not mean telling
or spreading information when it is not needed, but being honest is “speaking and acting
truthfully, and thereby remaining morally upright” (GPRC, 2021). For indigenous peoples,
