Battling Breast Cancer
Introduction
Health is an imperative factor in every living being life span. Without adequate health,
the life of an individual becomes poorly productive, troublesome, and financial burdens ensue.
Such miseries worsen and become complicated when the condition is termed chronic. One of the
most common chronic conditions in the contemporary society is cancer. Among women, breast
cancer is a leading cause of cancer related mortalities accounting for over 23 percent. Women
diagnosed with breast cancer require consistent individualized health care, which is a vital
determinant of the condition’s prognosis. Therefore, this paper attempts to explore palliative care
for patients with breast cancer with the aim to demonstrate the importance of health care in one’s
life.
Literature Review
According to the American Cancer Society, incidence by the year 2014 is at 235,030
while fatality cases are at 40430. Irvin, Muss, and Mayer, in their research, demonstrated that
approximately 40 000 women die every year from complications of breast cancer (1203). These
statistics illustrate the seriousness of breast cancer and the significance of instituting measures to
reduce these figures. Yardley argues that care to the women suffering from breast cancer should

adopt a comprehensive, collaborative approach (8). Therefore, the vitality of palliative care right
from the time the condition is diagnosed is a significant aspect of consideration in breast cancer
management. The role of a woman in the society is of paramount importance, yet can be a source
of despair in the fight against breast cancer. Ideally, women are emotionally vulnerable; thus,
chronic conditions may be more traumatizing psychologically than among the men population.
Denewer, Farouk, Mostafa and Elshamy hypothesized that women roles range from being a
woman, a mother, a housewife, a neighbor, jobs responsibilities, religious attachments, and social
roles in the community. All these roles are eminent sources of pressure and stress, which can
complicate a condition. Therefore, it is of paramount vitality enrolling or initiating palliative care
as early as the condition is diagnosed.
