1.) Jim’s drugs of choice:
i. Heroin – supported by the scene when Jim narrates the movie about the time he first
shot up heroin in a basement of a building; Jim encounters two junkies who
promote using needles when doing it holding up a syringe so that he could; directly
after this scene, it shows Jim being sick and has a horrible time from withdrawals
having done heroin (as his mother watches)
ii. Cocaine – supported by the scene when Neutron and Jim go to Winkie and Blinkie’s
high-end apartment and Blinkie gives him some cocaine to snort telling him it will
help him perform better sexually; after the movie gives insight that they have sex
and show Winkie asleep, Jim is obviously high and furiously writing away in his
journal as he snorts more cocaine on his own.
iii. Cigarettes – supported by scene when Jim, Mickey, Pedro and Neutron are hanging
out after Bobby’s funeral reminiscing about Bobby before he was sick and all four
of the boys are smoking cigarettes
iv. Alcohol – supported by scene (same as above) when Jim, Mickey, Pedro and
Neutron are talking about Bobby after his funeral as all four of them are smoking
cigarettes as well as drinking brown-bagged alcohol (presumably beer)
2.) Two key event that sparks Jim’s drug addiction would be first, the introductory stage of
use (which I like to call it), as Jim already has habits that make him an addict such as drinking
alcohol and smoking cigarettes. The particular time in this movie that I find it notable is the
within me and probably more than a person who isn’t an addict would feel.
