Basic Principles of Human Communication.
Shared Meaning: An example of shared meaning is when we talk about spicy food, some people
may think it is a great food to eat and others may think that it is the worst food in the world and
that it makes them sick after they eat it. This happens because when we talk about certain things
people have different experiences and might have different meanings to each of them.
Communication Is a Process: An example of communication is a process is when my friend and I
want to leave a place, we give each other a look that we only know and at that moment we
understand that we aren’t comfortable and that we want to leave as soon as possible. This action
started happening over time because when we used to go to parties or any events we didn’t know
how to let the other person know that we were ready to leave and overtime we just starting
noticing it by watching the other person's gestures to know that they felt uncomfortable.
Relationship, Intent, and Content: Most of the sentences have a different meaning depending on
your relationship with the person, your intent, and the content you are going to say. For example,
when I tell my boyfriend that he is so annoying I mean it in a funny way because we have a good
relationship and we are both playing around but if I go to one of my co-workers and I say the
same phrase they might get offended because our relationship is only professional.
Occurs in Context: An example of communication in context is saying the word “Shell” in
Spanish it is called “Concha” in Mexico it means sweet bread and is usually eat it with coffee or
milk but in Argentina or Uruguay this is a bad word so if someone hears you saying it they might
get offended or look at you badly; This happened to me and a few friends we were talking about
the sweet bread and our friend from Uruguay heard us and they thought we were fighting
explained to me that this was their way of giving a nice customer service.
