Basic Knowledge
Introduction
This is an exercise that is developed purposely to help me remember concepts and
principles of servant leadership besides my excellent mnemonics skills. I had picked out
numerous key terms with associated annotations from various genres in the study and practice of
servant leadership which I deem necessary.
Found in the exercise are key terms taken from the thought leadership, servant leaders,
Covey’s roles of the “best test,” and others that I believe would be useful for my personal growth
as well as my professional development in a prospective leadership role.
1. Thought Leaders Key Terms
According to my findings I noticed that there are two dimensions underlies the concept of
though leadership. The first is on an individual level, while the other on a corporate level. The
later mainly is mostly incorporated into principles of management and marketing but the form
seems to be the function of the later.
A thought leader is an individual or firm that significantly profits from being recognized
as such (Forbes para 8). Below is the list of key terms:

a. Individual Level
1. Brilliance – Brilliance is a function of acclamation, created where others bestow the
accolades.
2. Strategic & Creative Thinking – To be intelligent and creative, well informed and
be original or critical.
3. Name Recognition – Leaders desire for the need to be recognized in their
organization among employees, and stakeholders
4. Expert – being an expert in a topic that is an inch wide a mile deep. This for instance
means leading thought in an area that is about a specific problem that some segment
of consumer has.
5. Problem – having the ability to own a problem and making people to recognize they
can leverage from the problem and actually benefit more from it that were naturally
perceived. Most Thought leaders become experts, gain respect, recognition and
become leaders from their unusual area of specialization. They eventually develop a
new market out of their target markets.
b. Corporate Perspective
1. Brand/product recognition – Having the ability to prompt customers to buy your
product, follow and respect thus becoming loyal to you regardless.

2. Target Market Leader – Most firms find it difficult to differentiate themselves to
become a market leader. So one way is produce original and relevant contents that
actually helps to build a reputation for expertise which then leads to sales
opportunities and eventually be the market leader. This follows the underlying
principles of though leadership.
3. Rewards – being rewarded is very much the focal point of a thought leadership
deemed relevant in this level.
Servant Leadership is focused on the principle of service. It is about influencing others to
follow you. Unlike thought leadership it is not based on brilliance, name recognition or rewards,
