Being a Young Mom
This is it, the moment time stops as your life changes. It’s the moment you become a mom.
There is not enough time in the world to prepare for the never-ending diaper changes, feedings, or
sleepless nights. There is no sugar coating how hard the first three days are, tears ran down my face on
day three. Not tears of regret, tears of exhaustion physically and mentally. The old saying goes “it gets
better with time” – anonymous, but the question is does it get better or do we just adapt to it?
Being a mom is a challenge no matter how old you are, i’m 19 years old and I get to worry about
daycare fees and mommy duties when a normal 19-year-old girl would be at a college with friends and
their biggest worry is what to wear to the party. All I hear from people is what could have been, but I see
it a little differently. The best thing in the world is waking up to a smiley, chubby cheek, blue eyed baby
boy who looks at you like you are his world. Waking up to those tiny delicate hands and ten tiny toes is
like waking up on the beach, all your troubles and worries just disappear.
People look for reasons to judge you when you go to the store, out to dinner or even for a walk.
They look for mistakes and reasons why you are a bad mom because you are young. For example, my
three-month-old perfect son does not like socks, he will kick and scream until they are taken off. One
day we went to the store and not even five minutes through the door this elderly lady comes up to me
with such anger I thought I did something to offend her. She asked me if he was mine and I politely
replied “yes maam”. She looks at me head to toe with her judging eyes as a disgusted look comes upon
her face. “I know you are to young to be a mom but im going to help you out by telling you that your
child needs to wear socks, that poor baby needs to be raised right”. I instantly snapped back and said
