Barr v. Hicks
According to house.org, each house representative is elected to a two-year term and serve
the specific people in their district; as a house representative, that persons duties are to introduce
bills and amendments, and to serve on house committees. In the race for the Kentucky 6th
Congressional District representative position, two of the three candidates are Andy Barr and
Josh Hicks, each having quite similar political philosophies.
Andy Barr, the Republican incumbent of the Kentucky 6th Congressional District House
Representative, excelled in his education. Barr graduated from Henry Clay High School in
Lexington, Kentucky, and continued his education at the University of Virginia. There, he
graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a bachelor’s degree in Government and Philosophy. He would
then come home, finish school at the University of Kentucky’s College of Law where he
received his JD (Juris Doctor).
While in college, Andy Barr worked public service for the first time as a Legislative
Assistant for Congressmen Jim Talent. After two years of working for the congressmen, Barr
served on the Deputy General Counsel under former Kentucky Governor Ernie Fletcher until
Fletcher lost to Steve Beshear. Barr then moved into one of his current positions as a practicing
attorney for Kinkead & Stilz in Lexington, Kentucky. Barr has stated, on his website, to have

helped many businesses and individuals resolve disputes with the government (Barr, Meet Andy
Page). While spending time at the law firm, he also spent time teaching constitutional law and
administrative law at Morehead State University, he returned to teach at the University of
Kentucky before running as a House of Representatives 6th District candidate. With his
impressive education and work experience, Andy Barr is fit to be a House Representative.
Andy Barr has established that he is about the people of Kentucky and the 6th district.
Barr states that he is about individualism and not letting the government control the country. Barr
believes that the government has too much power over the economy and that the government
takes too much in terms of taxes. Barr believes the solution to this is to cut government spending.
Along with solving that issue, this will also reduce some of the national debt and help to balance
the federal budget. Barr also believes that the people can fuel the economy without government
