The customers have a unique dining experience when they visit one of the restaurants from the Barcelona
Restaurant Group. The owners have an exclusive way of running their business. The owners recruit self-
starting individuals and allow them to have freedom and control to amaze their customers. Andy seeks
employees that will use their creativity to come up with innovative contributions to the restaurant. The
employees are personable and strive to make the customers happy. The owners are primarily concerned
about the customer’s happiness, they are willing for their employees to go above and beyond to please
them. The Barcelona Restaurant Group is not super strict with the rules for the managers, they allow them
to make their own decisions which sometimes ends up being a better idea and outcome than what the
owners had in mind. The owners give their managers the complete responsibility of a restaurant. The
manager and wait staff receive all the credit for the success or take the responsibility for the failure. Andy,
one of the co-owners wants his managers to state their opinions and communicate with him always. The
Barcelona Restaurant Group believes that there is not a universal way to run every restaurant. Each one of
the seven restaurants will encounter separate issues at different times and the best way to fix those issues
will vary by each location. The Barcelona Restaurant Group is a very good example of the contingency
approach to management. I think this non-exclusive way of running a business should be used more often
than not.
