all the things you would need to mark on your celestial sphere.
The North celestial pole, South celestial pole and the celestial equator.
3.) On a clear, dark night, the sky may appear to be “full” of stars. Does this appearance
accurately reflect the way stars are distributed in space? Explain.
No it does not because we lack depth perception when we look into space due to the stars
being great distances from our planet. Stars can lie at different distances and some may not
be there.
4. Why does the local sky look like a dome? Define horizon, zenith, and meridian. How do
we describe the location of an object in the local sky?
The local sky look like a dome because we can only see half of the celestial sphere from
Earth no matter where we are due to the ground blocking the other half. The horizon is the
boundary between Earth and sky while zenith is the point that is directly overhead. The
meridian is an imaginary half circle stretching from horizon due south, through the zenith,
to the horizon due north. By pointing to the direction of the object In the sky which is
degrees clockwise from due north and it’s altitude on where it lies on the horizon.
5. Explain why we can measure only angular sizes and angular distances for objects in the
sky. What are arcminutes and arcseconds?
