Assignment 4
2/12/19
Scenario 1
Part A:
Activity using Frobel’s parquetry gift
I’ve selected the Froebel Parquet gift for this activity. The classroom will be divided into
small groups of children no more than four children per group. Each group will choose a picture
of a model, for example a house. The picture will include a set of parquet pieces. Each group will
use the set of parquet pieces to build the exact model represented by the picture. Give the
children time to observe the model and start a conversation by asking questions. “What are you
building?” “What color is it?” When the first model is completed each group can move on to the
next, more challenging figure.
The skills this activity helps to develop are observation, critical thinking and problem
solving. We also developed some math skills in the form of using geometry and we
developed their motor skills, by handling turning and fitting the pieces together and also
vocabulary by discussing the activity and cooperation by working together.
