I went to my local grocery store to observe the dental hygiene aisle. What I found was that there are 13
different brands of toothpaste. Some brands had several variations within their own brand. For example
Crest had 4 varieties to choose from such as 3D whitening, mouthwash included, and mint flavored. I
noticed that the toothpaste brands are arranged from top to bottom with the most expensive on top. I
also noticed that the most popular toothpaste brands were on the top and middle of the shelves such as
Colgate and Crest had a larger quantity then those that are less popular or less advertised before.
All of the toothpaste brands were packaged in rectangular packaging. Some came in different sizes by the
ounce. Some brands also had a travel size. Most of the packaging was bright and shiny. I notice that
those packages seem to attract attention more then the others tooth paste brand. The toothpaste brands
that are on the end of the bottom shelf were not noticeable as much as the others.
Just about all toothpastes have fluoride & cavity protection. Some brands go a step further to add mint
flavor, gel, paste & gel combined and some toothpaste are for sensitive teeth. There were a couple of
brands that are made out of natural ingredients for consumers who are looking for natural toothpaste
such as Hello and Arms and Hammer.
Overall there are many toothpaste brands to choose from. The shelves are stocked with many variations
to get consumers to purchase what appeals to them the most. The price and the type of need that the
consumers have for their teeth dictate the type of toothpaste they will purchase.
